I wish Bud Selig would resign

Following today’s release of the Mitchell Report, Bud Selig vowed “I will Act” against current players on a case-by-case basis.

But why? you can’t change the past, and as the commissioner of a sport that loves to live in the past he should realize this. Nothing he does now will change the fact that for more than a decade, in the 1990’s and 2000’s, baseball was tainted by steroids.

Now I honestly believe Bud Selig wants to do the right thing, but penalizing the current players is useless and will do nothing but create tension between the players union and the commissioners office, something he doesn’t need if he quickly wants to clean up the game and prevent this from happening again.

Just fix the problem and move on.

Can you image the CEO of a publicly traded company letting a controversy this large go on for the better part of a decade? No, they would have resigned by now and a new leader would have came in, cleaned house and moved on.

I think Bud is too invested, and as good as his intentions may be I think Bud really needs to question whether or not he is the best suited to lead Baseball to the end of the steroid era.

  • well stated. how's this for irony: i believe the brewers (selig is at least part-owner) just signed free agent eric gagne this past week! if selig isn't going to resign he better set a good example by taking care of his own team first... otherwise his credibility is probably going to be questioned.
