My worst fire drill ever

This week, we had a fire drill at work, and it sucked in the worst way. I work on the 27th floor of a 30 story building, and had to walk down 27 flights of stairs to get out. Not only did this take a good 15 minutes to do, my legs were jello by the bottom and it also gave my quads a workout they were not expecting. Which is not all bad, but something that isn’t fun either.

Anyway, I can’t imagine having a fire drill (or real fire) in a building like the john hancock center, sears tower or the new freedom tower, It would take almost an hour to get down assuming your legs were still functioning by the time you got there.

If people just learned to use common sense, fire drills would not be necessary. Besides mass chaos would ensue anyway, if there was a real fire.

  • they probably could, but E2 is not even 1/2 as tall.
  • do people really run the E2 stairs??
  • A group of guys that I work with run the stairs of E2 every afternoon. I bet they could handle such a fire drill.
  • i am out of shape, however wobbly legs were definitely were not an exception, more than a few people were off balance at the bottom. Going down in single file line without any variation in speed sucks.
  • erik
    Get in the gym.
Work too much = Out of shape.

They need a fire drill every couple of days to get you ready for the coming Mammoth season. How are you going to get down the mountain if you are having trouble getting down the stairs???
  • I'm worried...it doesn't sound like you are in very good shape.
  • we had a fire drill at work a few weeks ago. everyone evacuated to the far end of the parking lot except for the one guy that was smoking a cigarette on the sidewalk in front of the building.
